Dear Social Workers,
First of all, let me thank you.
Thank you for all that you do behind the scenes to help children find loving homes, a place to belong, a fighting chance. I know that you work hard to pull this off–you are unsung heroes in our society. I do wish society as a whole trumpeted the protectors of children more than they do.
Once again, your help is needed. I am asking for you to step forward to help children once again—social workers are needed to collect these books and distribute them to foster children. The word “distribute” need not become a huge job—it could be just setting up a bookshelf in your office where other social work professionals can come to “shop” when heading out to meet with kids.
If you are a social worker in another state and are willing to collect/help distribute books in your area, please email me at Lyndamullalyhunt@gmail.com with “Book Train” in the subject line. Please include:
- your name
- position
- website address for your agency
- mailing address
- phone number (will not be published online)
- (Note: Mailing addresses must be agencies affiliated with foster care. Unfortunately, no books can be mailed to private addresses.)
Upon receipt of a book donation, I would ask that you please send a postcard to the person who has donated. I will provide you with these postcards which will serve as both a thank you and a receipt, but ask that your state agency cover postage for the postcards.
Also, it would be helpful to have feedback come back to this site in the form of quick comments, pictures, etc. This way, people donating books will be more likely to continue to donate and/or spread the word. I would not expect images of children but pictures of kids’ drawings and notes or stacks of books could be posted on the Please Share BT Story Page. Just a thought…
